The Austin-Area Rare Bird Alert is a service of the Travis Audubon Society. This update is as of 9.00am, July 26th, 2007:

--- RARITIES FOUND THIS PAST WEEK ---

A CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD (Stellula calliope) was photographed at a
private residence in Leander on July 25th.

--- CONTINUING BIRDS FROM PREVIOUS WEEKS ---

Two LEAST GREBES (Tachybaptus dominicus) are in the flooded loam pit
along Platt Lane, last reported on July 19th. Platt Lane is along the
north end of the Hornsby Bend property, with the flooded pit best
viewed by looking down into it from its western edge from the section
of Platt Lane that runs north to south.

A GREEN VIOLET-EAR (Colibri thalassinus) photographed at a private
residence between Bastrop and Paige on April 29th was last seen as
recently as July 14th.

A pair of BROWN-CRESTED FLYCATCHERS (Myiarchus tyrannulus) is
apparently summering at the Schaezler's Warbler Woods property near
Cibolo, last reported there on July 12th.

--- RARE SIGHTINGS FROM PREVIOUS WEEKS ---

Two PIPING PLOVERS (Charadrius melodus) visited Hornsby Bend on July
14th. A LONG-BILLED CURLEW (Numenius americanus) flew over the
property on the same day.

A SNOWY PLOVER (Charadrius alexandrinus) was in a small pool of water
near the new landscaped lake at the old Mueller Airport in Austin on
July 13th.

Two LONG-BILLED CURLEWS (Numenius americanus) were between Manor and
Elgin on July 10th.

A WARBLING VIREO (Vireo gilvus) was heard in the little subdivision
just east of Webberville Park (far east Travis County) on July 9th.

--- RARITIES FOUND THIS PAST WEEK ---

Two PIPING PLOVERS (Charadrius melodus) visited Hornsby Bend on July 14th. A LONG-BILLED CURLEW (Numenius americanus) flew over the property on the same day.

A WARBLING VIREO (Vireo gilvus) was heard in the little subdivision
just east of Webberville Park (far east Travis County) on July 9th.

--- Continuing birds from previous weeks ---

A GREEN VIOLET-EAR (Colibri thalassinus) photographed at a private
residence between Bastrop and Paige on April 29th continues to be seen
as recently as July 9th.

A pair of SCOTT'S ORIOLES (Icterus parisorum) have been visiting a
private residence in the FM 1431/Nameless Road area, last reported on
July 4th.

The first report of WOOD STORKS (Mycteria americana) for the season
was of three birds over Utley (eastern Bastrop County) on June 29th.
